Habitat for Humanity International was established in Americus, Georgia by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1973.
President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter were long time supporters and partners with Habitat for Humanity. Their efforts have resulted in the construction of over 2,000 affordable homes being built. We cannot over state the exposure given to Habitat due to their involvement.
Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide organization with autonomous, (independent) affiliates that serve communities all around the globe. Both International and affiliates are controlled by a board of directors with elected officers.
Habitat International receives feedback from a board made up of people from local affiliates and the local affiliates receive feedback from the community it serves.
